A Web Service (also known as a Webservice) is defined by the W3C (the World Wide Web Consortium) as "a software system designed to support interoperable machine-to-machine interaction over a network". Web Services are in other words, a collection of interfaces that allow your remote computers to communicate with each other over the internet.
